Title

Safe Conveyance of the Box

Description

Mrs. Murray had intended to send a box to her brother with Mr. Goodhue but fears that he will leave Philadelphia before her letter arrives. Therefore, she asks Hodgdon to send the box with the enclosed letter by the first safe conveyance and to inform her when it is shipped. She fears the box may be broken and contents lost because of the rough road on which it will travel but trusts Hodgdon to pay every attention to the business.

My Dear Sir
I wrote you this Morning, under cover to Mr Goodhue, ac
quainting you with my design to address a box for my Brother to your care,
but as Mr Goodhue may leave Philadelphia before my letter reag reaches
that City - I take leave to repeat my request that you would send
on the box, with the inclosed letter, by the first safe conveyance. and
that you would have the goodness to apprize me, by a line, of its arri
val, and the day on which it sets out on its journey over the moun
tains. I am fearful the box may be broke, and the contents lost or
injured, over such a vast extent of rough road -- but I have perfect
confidence that your kindness for my Brother, together with your gene
ral benevolence, will induce you to pay every attention to this business.
I tender my regards to your family and I am with respect &c &c

Your

J. Sargent Murray

Colonel Hodgdon
