Description
Mrs. Murray sent a letter with Mr. Thatcher advising Hodgdon that she had shipped a box of books to him on board the schooner "Sally" (John Day, Master). Her brother regrets the loss of the garden seed so Hodgdon is asked if he can remember by whom they were to be conveyed to him.

Boston Franklin Place May 1st 1798
Dear Sir
I lately took the liberty to address a letter to
you, through the medium of Mr Thatcher, by post, advertising
you that I had put on board the schooner Sally -John Day Master -
a box of books addressed, agreeably to your direction, to your care - which
letter, and box I trust reached you in safety - In the letters you lately
forwarded me from my Brother, he regrets the loss of the garden seed,
which I sent on by Mr Thatcher last Autumn, or in the beginning
of the winter - can you, my dear Sir, recollect by whom they
were intended to be conveyed to him? If you will have the
goodness to forward the inclosed, by the first safe hand, you will
add, essentially, to the obligations already conferred on your
