Mr Seely Fithian late Capt. of a Company of New Jersey Militia
Sir
I wrote to Mr. Maskell Ewing on the 17th ulto requesting him to account for monies paid him for the pay of a company of militia commanded by you employed to suppress an insurrection in the western counties of Pennsylvania in the year 1794 - in answer to which he informs me that he has acc* to you for the same. I have therefore to request that you will without delay transmit the necessary vouchers to this office to exonerate you from this [missing text] and in case any balance remains unappropriated [in?] your hands to refund the same to the Treasurer of [the] United States.
I am the more urgent in requesting speedy attention to this object in consequence of a re*tion of Congress of the 8 March last, whereby I am [di]rected to furnish an abstract by the first week in *ary next of the names of all receivers of public [monies?] unaccounted for.
Colo Nevill the P.M.G. for the expedition in question has been furnished with direct[ives] to attend to the final settlement of all the accounts relative to it, and is to attend for that purpose accordingly on the 15th of this month before which time I hope your account and vouchers will undergo the necessary examination in this [missing text].
