Mr. Joseph O'Bannon Late Capt. of a Comp. of Virg. Militia, Fauquier County
Accountants Office October 17th, 1797
Sir.
In an abstract of monies advanced by Presley N* [edge of page] evill Paymaster General to the Militia called out to suppress a* [edge of page] insurrection in the western counties of Pennsylvania in the ye** [edge of page] 1794 you stand charged with a sum of money paid to you b* [edge of page] him pursuant to a warrant in your favor being for the * [edge of page] of a Company of Virginia Militia commanded by you an* [edge of page] employed in said expedition; and as no vouchers have hither [edge of page] been transmitted to this Office to exonerate you from this [edge of page] advance I have to request your immediate attention in* [edge of page] rondering such as you actually possess or can speedily procure, pr* [edge of page] perly stated and in case of a deficiency to refund the balance [edge of page] remaining unaccounted for in your hands to the Treasurer of t* [edge of page] United States.
I am under the necessity to be the more urg* [edge of page] in requesting your immediate attention to this object in [edge of page] consequence of a Resolution of Congress of the [indecipherable] March las* [edge of page] directing me to furnish an abstract of the names of all the [edge of page] receivers of public monies unaccounted for, by the first we** [edge of page] in January next.
Col. Nevill the Paymaster General has been furn* [edge of page] with directions to attend to the final settlement of a* [edge of page] accounts relative to that expedition and is to attend accor* [edge of page] on the 15th Nov. next before which time I hope your account [edge of page] vouchers will be regularly furnished & examined in this [edge of page] Office & the amount paid by you passed to its proper acco* [edge of page] in the aforementioned abstract to be furnished to Congress.
