"I enclose you a duplicate of my letter to Brigadier General Wilkinson of yesterday's date for your government in case he should have left Fort Washington or by any accident be prevented from communicating to you the contents. Having a perfect reliance on your prudence and judgement, I cannot doubt but your command will prove satisfactory to yourself and advantage to the United States."
