Description

It was known that General Wayne had arrived in Presqu'Isle eleven days ago with the gout but now Balfour announces that he has died. He will receive all the honors due him and he will be interred within the works. Balfour has written to Mr. Scheaff asking him to send a quarter cask of wine to Hodgdon which should be sent on to Balfour with Major Craig.

I presume you had either
heard of General Wayne's arrivale here the
[undecipherable] & his having the [undecipherable]
11 Days ago he was attacked with great
[undecipherable] in Stomach & Bowls which in
spite of ever excision [undecipherable] hi off this
morning__ I make on doubt his death
will be lamented_ all the honors
in on power will be paid him It is proposed
to inter him within the [undecipherable].77I have written to Mr. Henry Sheaff
Issuing him to send a [undecipherable] Cast of
[undecipherable] to your [undecipherable]. You could much
oblige me by sending it to the care of Major
Craig [undecipherable] in the first Waggon should it
not be admissible in a Public Waggon I would
trouble you to have it put in any other or The
first would [undecipherable] not improper be the worst
acceptable both for safety & [undecipherable] an object
of importance to most amercian inferior
