Description

Ensign Meriwether Lewis arrived from Detroit with dispatches from the Commander in Chief to the Secretary of War which should be forwarded immediately by a confidential person. Ensign Lewis, being such a person, has been charged with carrying the packets with the dispatches to the Secretary. He has been furnished with a horse and forty dollars for his journey.
