Sir
Your letter of the 12th. Ult. pointed out that the deposition of Mr. Alexander Scott respecting the Flour tendered to me by M. Ernest on the 8th. July was necessary previous to its being received as the property of the U.S. and my Letter of the 19th. of same month informed you that as Mr. Alex. Scott resides in Phila. or Lancaster it became necessary that his deposition be obtained by some person under your Order where he, M Scott, resides. To this letter I have not had the pleasure of your answer consequently the 200 barrels of flour are still in the Hands of the late Contractors who say it is now at the request of the U.S. and that it is a matter of indifference with them whether it is received or not.
