Requests Permission to go to Kentucky for Business
Description
Reports news from his brother, whom he sent on important business to Kentucky last year and who became ill and hasn't been able to conduct the business. Requests permission from the Secretary of War to go conduct his business in Kentucky. Will ask Major Beduyler to ascertain orders while he is absent. Promises not to be gone longer than 10 weeks. Has examined all arms and has arranged all summer work to await his return in August.

Sir
I have this day recd a letter from a
Brothr of mine whom I sent to Kentucky
last spring on business of great importance
to me, he took cold going down the river and
has not been able to walk since of course my
business is still undone.
Permit me to ask the favor of you,
to ask leave of the Honble the Secretary of
War for me to go to that Country -- I will engage to
get a reputable trusty gentleman ( Major
Bedinger)of the Town to answer any orders
and do the new pay business here in my ab-
=sence and that I will not be gone longer
than ten weeks -- my claims are all examined
and such as want clearing seperated from the others
in short all my summer work is so arranged as
not to be default in my absence.
Please write me on the subject as
soon as possible provided you do me the favor
