I have the honour to communicate to your lordship that the provisions required on the part of the U.S. by the Treaty of Amity commerce and navigation, between his Britannic Majesty and the U.S. of America, have been duly made by government, with which the President has instructed me to inform you. It has also been given to me in charge to mention that, in conformity to the 2d articles of the said Treaty, detachments for the army of the U.S. [strikethrough: will be speedily] [undecipherable: an order to be] put in motion to take possession of the posts to be evacuated. In the mean while, Cap^t. Lewis, who will have the honour to present this letter, is authorised to receive from your lordship, and to transmit to these detachments, a duplicate of the order for evacuation, and [undecipherable] ment relative to the officer of trade command that is to accompany them. Permit me on this occasion, to express to your lordship, the pleasure I experience in contemplating the beneficial consequences that may be expected to flow from an instrument, that establishes between the two nations and their inhabitants, good understanding and friendly intercourse so essential to their mutual prosperity, and which it is the wish of the U.S. to render perpetual.
