Information of Intrigues Concerning Land Along Lake Erie
Description
Refers to earlier discussion of lands around Lake Erie; informs Chapin that various unscrupulous people around Detroit have designs on that tract, currently claimed by the Wyandots. Asks that Chapin prevent any illegal land grants, which would only cause confusion.

Grand River March 15. 1796
Dear Sir
I hope this Letter will find you
at home from your long journey_
I have spoke to the General your
father and also to yourself respecting
the Lands on Lake Erie and Should not
have troubled you again on that Subject
until I had heard from you, but it is
necessary that I Should inform you of the
intrigues carrying on respecting that
tract, Especialy above Kyahaga as
various People about Detroit are endeavering
to get claims to that Land from
the Indians not regarding from what nation
they get it or whether they have any
For
Cap.t Chapin
right to the country or not, now as we, and the
Wgadots claim that country I thought it
necessary to apprise you of what is going
forward in order that you may take such steps
as you Shall Judge necessary to prevent
the confusion that might follow from any
illegal grants of that Territory,
