D. of War Accountant's Office
June 5th 1795.
Caleb Gibbs. Esquire
Boston
Sir
I received our letters of 24th ulto. and in answer thereto inform you that a Certific= =cate from General Jackson of the date you told him you accepted your appointment is necessary, as the Pay of all Officers in the service in the United States is calculated from the date they accept their appoint, and not [word underlined]
from the day they were appointed. You will therefore remain charged with the sum you received, until your accounts are settled to cover that amounts.
I am Sir. Y.c
William Simmons
