Extract of a letter from James Seagrove to The Secretary of War
Savannah 12 May 1795
[Col Henley]
Extract of a letter from James Seagrove Esq. Agent of Indian Affairs to the Secretary of War dated Savannah 12th May 1795
Sir
I have the pleasure to inform you that I have this morning received dispatches by express from the Chiefs of the Creek Nations and my Deputies with the agreeable news that the whole of the Nation had determined at their late meeting to comply with my demands made on them on the 10 January last and to live in perfect peace and friendship with every part of the United States. The vessel that brings you this, being under sail, makes it impossible for me to send you copies of the Talks I have received: but shall be got ready for next opportunity. A number of the Chiefs are now on their way to me at this place with all the prisoners and property in the Creek Nation. Every thing looks well; and I have great reason to believe that when I meet the Chiefs I shall be able to impress them with the necessity of their continuing in peace with this Country and of bringing them to a full sense of their situations."
