Sir
I hope I am not out of order when I beg
leave to recommend to your fab vors a worthy man
whi is & has been saomteime in my employ & whos
return I hourly look for, from Europe. He before sailing
expressed a desire of entering the Navy & wishes a
first Lieutenants berth on board the frigate to be
built here. He has long sailed as Master Tho a
young man. I can recommend as a perfect seaman
an industrious active sober man & in all respects
a gentleman. That will do credit to the post he fills.
I have a particular friendship for him + beg to offer
any security necessary for his appointment-
I have spoken to Capt. Dale on th subject
of Capt. Samuel Barron. I believe that if Capt.
Dale has the appointment of his own officers
he will favor Capt. Barron as his first lieut
having I am informed has his character from others-
I have requested my very respectable
friend Geo Meade, Esq to second this my
petition
With his interest & the latter myuself, I shall have
The honor to learn from you that Capt.
Barron will succeed in the appointment
I am bold to say no man in the United
States will do more credit
I have the honor to be very
Respectfully
Sir
