Description

Howell is remitting to Swan a sum to be forwarded to the Commanding Officer at Fort Fayette to be applied on account of the mounted volunteers and the pay, subsistence, and forage of the regular troops for August. Application has been made for the pay of James Smith, late of Capt. Russell Bissell's Company, his discharge having been lost or mislaid. Howell cannot ascertain whether he has been paid and orders Swan to always note on the discharge paper how the man has been paid.
