Title

Draft of a Speech to the Chickasaw Indians

Description

Draft of a speech to the chiefs and warriors of the Chickasaw Nation of Indians. The speech starts out by expressing gratitude in the Chickasaws joining with the U.S. Army in combating the "hostile tribes northwest of the Ohio," who allegedly had been "deaf to the voice of reason and peace." Concludes by stating that any Chickasaw individual who would like to learn to read, write, and manage a farm shall be taken care of at the public expense. Knox enclosed the draft of this speech in a letter to President Washington.
