Sir
Your letter of the 22d instant, has been
received and its enclosures __ I wish the news you
transmitted of General Waine & victory was true, but
the same report was brought probably by the same
channeld ten days ago. I understand the waggons arrived
safely __ but that a Captain Boyd, I supose of the vo=
lunteers, Lieut. Lowrey, and thirteen privates were killed.
I have however no official account __
From your letters it appears that both majors
Cass and Winston have left Pittsburg. Capt. Cawford
must then descend the Ohio with the charge which
will be delivered him by Colonel Mentges. Let
there be no delay on your part.
I enclose a packet for General Wayne, which
you will forward with all speed by some safe con=
veyances __
