A transcriber's note indicates that a portion of the copy of the letter he was transcribing was on a 'half sheet of the thinnest of copying paper is entirely illegible,' and then adds that on 'Nov 21, [18]56 I have copied [the balance] from the original furnished to me by Col Sargent's g[rand]son.'
