notable item/thing
commanding general has descended the river to Fort Washington
necessary for me to reply particularly to your several letters
thank you heartily
extensive and important information
communicated from time to time
duly communicated to the President
persuaded that your
sense as well as your inclination will lead you to unite cordially with General Wayne and to promote a spirit of harmony throughout the several Corps
Brigadier General Posey
is a gentleman
the service will derive solid benefit
he will arrive time enough to descend with Mrs Wilkinson
to whom please respectfully to present my homage
I have often expressed to her and Colonel Biddle the pleasure your conduct gave the President
I am impressed with the conviction that you will persevere in the same path
My God
what an uproar in Europe
if the French nation shall be united and consolidated their force within their own limits they will be invincible although they must suffer immensely in the process
a doubt rests upon their union
if they are divided almost equally they will be conquered
what a scene the European theatre would be for your military talents
Governor Lee talks of going to France, but I imagine the present
state of things will deter him
enclose you the opinion of the Attorney General
relatively to the civil prosecution instituted against you in the North Western Territory
to which I make no doubt you will pay due respect.
