Description

Letter from James Seagrove to W. Payne, Chief of Simanola [Seminole] tribe. Seagrove has not yet met the Chief personally, but notes that his reputation is respectable. Seagrove extends invitation to Payne to visit. Refers to meeting of chiefs 1 May at Cussetah. Describes the robbery and murder at Robert Seagrove's store at Trader Hill St Marys. Suggests that William Burgess, a trader was involved. Writes to assure Payne that he and President of United States want peace. Asks Payne to use his influence to encourage peace. Sends Langley Bryant, and interpreter. Did not send a present, but if Payne comes to Seagrove, he will receive one.
