Title

Wait for Word from Indian Allies & An Appointment to Adjutant General

Description

Col. Proctor will remain in Legionville until he hears from the Indian allies and will occupy his time in making improvements on the new carriage for one of the howitzers. Regarding the appointment of Colonel Sproat to be Adjutant General, Wayne professes not to know him and would prefer to have someone he knows and trusts in that important post.

I will candidly acknowledge that had I a choice, it would be a gentleman of whose military abilities I had some knowledge & in whom I could place confidence in every vicissitude of fortune--and who from local situation would not be subject/ like the late Governor of New Jersey/ to conclude that every movement of the Enemy was directed against his family or person--nor too fond of a frontier militia--but all this in confidence.
