Brothers
The Great Council fo the United States having taken into consideration the present troubles subsisting between them and their Brothers of different Indian Tribes, have reason to beleive in some measure, that these troubles have arisen from mis-understanding between the Parties concerned, and being desirous to remove every just ground of complaint: the Great Chief General Washington, more than two moons past sent a speech to you by Captain Tueman on the subject of Peace And Captain Hendricks of the Stockbridge Tribe, has also been dispatched to inform you of the friendly disposition of the President + the Great Council of the United States towards all Indian Tribes.
Brothers these and other measures of a like nature have been taken preparatory to my arrival on our frontier settlements, who am appointed by General Washington in behalf of the Great Council to enquire into all your grievances and to treat with
with you on the purest principle of justice and humanity
Brothers I have weighty matters to communicate to you and do not doubt but when we shall meet together and have heared [sic] one another, your hearts will rejoice and we shall unite in friendship + Love
A String of three branches
Brothers All the Roads between you and us have been shut for some time past; I now request you to open the Path that leads to Fort Jefferson (the nearest of our posts to the Maimi Towns) that you and I may be able to meet one another, and enter on this great work. I expect to be there myself in about twenty days and request that you will sent some of your Men with Captain Hendrick to conduct me with a few friends to the place you shall fix on for our meeting - Your Messangers may approach Fort Jefferson without fear, as measures are already taken to prevent any injury being done to them.
A String of two Branches
Brothers You have now heared what I have to say|at present, fill your pipes with this Tobacco when you deliberate on this my Speech, And above all let the great and good Spirit above guide you in your Councils and you will find that you will be blessed with peace and happiness
