I have received your favor of the 30th. Ultimo. Permit me to rest on you entirely for as many approved rifles as possible to be contracted for by you, to be delivered by the first of July, not exceeding one thousand two hundred.
But I beg of you not to approve one rifle but such as you shall judge of such quality as will answer the end proposed.
