To the Secretary at War of the United States of America
The Memorial of the Inhabitants of Ohio County State of Virginia: Humbly sheweth that your Memorial we conceive themselves to be in a most deplorable situation at present; The Indians begining to do Mischief so Early, the [illegible] of their marching in a large body[favors?] us the Consideration that we are in a Defenceless Condition nothing to [trust?] to but Eight Spies are Circumstances we approach and sufficient inspire terror government has indeed Resolved to allow us Forty men to be Commanded by Capt. McMahon but he is not yet arrived. We therefore pray that our County Lieutts have orders to send out so many of the Militia from time to time as may be sufficient to put a stop to Savage Cruelty. We know not where so properly to apply for Relief so to your Honourable Board from whom we expect every assistance that is in your power before we be all destroyed and your memorial shall every pray.
