Howell has received a letter from Capt. [Zebulon] Pike informing him that he is in perfect health and asking Howell to advance to Mrs. Pike sixty to eighty dollars with the idea that he will require two or three month's advance pay to get home. Mr. Dayton has been asked to transmit seventy dollars to Mrs. Pike, for which a receipt will be required.
