Relieving the Wounded

The clothing sent on is a little wet having gone through the river and there is no place here to open the bales with any kind of safety. The General thinks that they should be sent as they are on to Fort Washington as soon as possible. All the horses here, including those with the clothing, have gone with provisions to relieve the wounded that lie between this place and Fort Washington. There is no other way of getting them there except on horses from Hodgdon.

Fort Hamilton 7th Novr. 1791
Dear Sir
Before this I expect you have heard of our fate on the fourth Inst. therefore shall say nothing on that Subject. But have to inform you that the Clothing last sent on, was ordered back to this garrison; it is a little wet by going through the River & no place here to open the Bales in any kind safety, [undecipherable] mentiones this matter to the General & he say's he thinks it is better to have them sent as they are to Fort Washington and as soone as possible all the Horses that is here along with those that had the Clothing is gone with provision to relieve the Wounded that lies between this & Fort Jefferson. There is no other way of getting them on but by Horses from you.
