Title

Letter from Samuel Hodgdon to William Knox on state of supply and logistics problems in preparation for St Clair expedition

Description

Hodgdon is quartermaster for St Clair expedition. He laments the timeliness of the posts and wishes to receive his returns before going forward. Knapsacks of questionable utility. Boots necessary for the horsemen. Have spurs been ordered? Pack saddles already considered. Mentions tents, price and quality; refers to Russia sheeting. Questions whether tents will come forward. Hodgdon's wagon not yet arrived. Has asked Major Craig to watch incoming supply wagon. Discusses price of wagon procured to attend Beatty's presence. Hodgdon's wife reports that Knox is much pushed and industrious. Colesworthy coming soon; assistance is not the kind Hodgdon needs at present. Mentions axes, spades, shovels and bells are on their way. Asks if cheaper bells could have been found, perhaps Lancaster.
