On receipt of this Letter, you will please go in quest of Materials and Workmen, to compleat all the Public Boats at the Landing for transporting Men, horses, and stores down the river--the sudden rise of the river offers an easy, speedy and safe conveyance for all that can now be got away--We shall want a considerable number of boards--these you will provide immediately--if not to be had reasonably in Town they may I am informed be got from Vises [fan?] Mills, on the Alleghany, and them you will apply--All the appendages [for?] the Cavalry you will please to attend to, [undecipherable] they may be ready for the first embarkation--the smaller articles had had best be put [into?] boxes, the large may be forwarded loose, [provided], the boats are so constructed as to [shield] them from injury by the water, or weather
As so many of the Troops are come on, every [exertion] on our part, for opening the campaign should be instantly made.
