notable phrase

took charge of the stores and after compleating of collection and examination of them I exhibited my account of the expenses
received the monthly allowance for executing this particular trust of safe keeping said stores
persons might have been continued or perhaps others found to have accepted the charge of the stores and performed all the duties of collection & removal for even a less sum than the monthly allowance, but then how might the public have faired in the end
spent the time industriously and necessarily as it respected the public interest
cannot in anywise be considered as a duty connected to the small monthly allowance of eight dollars for the safe keeping trust I undertook to perform which was barely the safe keeping of the stores
removal of the stores not being contemplated
condition of my acceptance of the trust that the stores should remain at the public risk and all necessary expences of storage collection or removal be paid me as appears by my letter to you on that subject
beg leave respectfully to remark that upon his return from Philadelphia my feelings were very much hurt to find that you had from a misconception as I conceive of the conditions on which I took charge of the public stores or from an unfavourable idea that I had exhibited an improper demand, deducted the 22 1/2 days service charged in the account for preparing and attending the loading of military stores
