Title

Letter from Secretary of War Henry Knox to the Reverend Samuel Kirkland on recommendation of Captain Hendricks for employment, and Colonel Brant's letter

Description

Knox is responding to letter from Kirkland dated 28 April 1791. Knox expresses approval of Kirkland's recommendation of Captain Hendricks for employment. Instructs that he have Hendricks call on Colonel Pickering at Wyoming New York for clothing and other necessaries. General Schuyler mentioned another Chief of the Oneidas of great respectability, but notes that Cornplanter may have anticipated all others and gone forward. Refers to Colonel Brant and notes he is right on principle of boundaries. Idea of conquest ought to be relinquished and purchase and fair sale ought to take place. Will be glad that Kirkland has pushed forward with Captain Hendricks and Chief Peter.
