Sir
I have presented to the Secretary of War your report of the pay to the militia of Alleghany County but the Secretary directs that previous to granting the warrant for payment it is highly necessary a certificate should be produced from the comptroller of the State of Pennsylvania, said militia have not been paid by the State.
I also return your report of the Sixth instant with report to the rangers of the above mentioned County and the General directs that the claim of the company commanded by Cot. Patterson is to lay over for further consideration and the directions of the President of the United States.
I am Sir Your very humble servant
Joseph Howell R.J. Vandenbrock
