Title

On the building of forts on the Miami of the lake; French settlers at Gallipolis; lack of provisions

Description

St. Clair had discussed the advisability of building a fort on the Miami of the Lake, in case of success by the military expedition, but Knox turned him down because of concern over costs. St. Clair says not so great a force would have been necessary. Indians cannot concentrate for long because they do not have any economy with provisions. Discusses British support of the Indians with ammunition. Refers to McKee. Discusses the French settlement at Gallipolis, and very much fears that disappointment and chagrin will attend this project. Mentions that lack of provisions at Fort Harmar.
