To Genl Knox, Secretary at War 5th Novemr 1790
Providence 15th Novemr 1790
Sir
There are two Brass four pounders mounted on field carriages, property of the United States, which have been a great many years in the possession of the Artillery Company of this town commanded by Colo. Tillinghast, who is extremely desirous of retaing them in the use thereof, subject to the future order of the Secretary at War. As this Company was incorporated at the commencement of the late War and has been ever since kept up and [undecipherable] with a great degree of reputation; and if there should be no immediate demand for these Pieces at West Point, I take the liberty of pleading for the Colonel, and at intreating the favor of your compliance with his Wishes. I expect Capt [undecipherable] will take the last Load of Military Stores about the 20th of this month; and if I could have your reply by that time it will much oblige Sir
