Sir The expense of the proposed expedition will be great but, I have that confidence in your economical arrangements, that you will not order more packhorses that shall be absolutely necessary, consistent with efficacy. The packhorses for provisions will be at the contractors expense. It is true they will have an additional price for the rations; but as you will not take tents, and, in all other respects, will be unincumbered, and as light as possible, I do not conceive that you will want packhorses for other objects than your provisions. I have written to the governor by this conveyance respecting the Miami village, which will be considered as a joint letter. The President of the United States will be anxious to hear of the arrangements and sucess.
I am &cH. Knox.Secretary
To General Harmar.
