Letter from Genl Knox 25th May 1790.
War Office May 25th 1790
Sir,
The Secretary of the Treasury has informed me that he has furnished you with the necessary funds for the Second moiety of the Invalid Pensions for the year 1789 I have concluded that it would be unnecessary to transmit you a Second list of the Invalids for the State of Rhode Island I only transmit you my warrant for the Second moiety of the annual pension of the Invalids agreably to the list which I transmitted you on the nineteenth day of February last and the additional return herewth inclosed bearing date 25th may 1890 which return contains a warrant for the payment of the first moiety to the 30 Invalids lately inspected and who were discharged from the army on pension and for which additional Sum I shall request the Secretary of the
Treasury
Treasury to make the necessary provision
As it is highly probably that several of the Invalids contained in the said list who have not applied for the first, and may not apply for the Second payment are Dead, it is a circumstance of considerable important to endeavour to ascertain the fact in order that a perfect list of the Invalids may be had I will therefore thank you to obtain the information as Soon as possible and transmit it to me on or before the first of August next You will also be pleased to notify in the public papers that the payment of the Second moiety will commence on the 5 of June next
I amSirYour most obedientServantH Knox
