Secretary of War, respecting
Indian [undecipherable] and the
ammunition furnished to the
Chickasaw.

Sir,
The President of the United
States has directed me, to acknow-
ledge the receipt of your Excellencys
favor of the 12th Instant enclosing
an address, and certain resolutions
of the Honorable the Legislature of
Virginia passed in their late session
both being on the subject of Indian
affairs.
He has also directed me
Sir to inform you, that the state
of the Indian department will be
laid fully before the Congress at
the session about to take place -
and that it is his firm expectation
that
that such arrangements will be adopted
as shall afford satisfaction and
protection to the frontiers.
He has further directed
Sir, that you be informed that he
considers the United States as highly
obliged to the State of Virginia for
its ready and effectual supply of
ammunition to the Chickasaw nation,
and that the same be immedi-
ately reimbursed. For which
purpose I have the honor to enclose
an order to your Excellency on Captain
Holt who has charge of the stores
of the United States at New London in
Virginia.
I have the honor to be
