Philadelphia Decem 28th 1787
Sir
I am Dunlop Esq late Major in the 6th Pennysylvania Regt when under the command of Col William Irvin, has showed me certificate from you, setting forth that I had new in March 1777 the sum of 2000 dollars, for the pay of said regiment for which I had never accounted- and that no settlement could be made with him until that was done, I herewith enclose you a transcript of the account of that sum which I settled with the Board of Treasury which I make no doubt will appear by referring to the proceedings of the Gen Board - I distributed the money to the different captains of the regiment and charged them with the respective sums, the captains who settled the accounts of their companions with the same Board - I drew Major Dunlop's pay for the months of October, November and December in the year 1776 but none for him after that time, I would be happy to have the matter cleared up so that Major Dunlop may have his (undecipherable) paid him and I myself be safe.
I have the Genl to be your ob and very honbl sevt
