Money lodged in Charleston

Description

The Commissioner of Army Accounts informs the Board of Treasury that money previously lodged in Charlotte was currently in Charleston. Pierce states that he did not see the need to have it brought to him in New York since it would be ordered there anyway.

Honorable
Board of Treasury
Gentlemen
I take the liberty to lay before the Board the following extract, from a letter I have received from Mr Joseph Clay dated at Savannah January 20th 1787
[The following block quote is indicated in the original with quotation marks at the beginning of each line of text. There is no closing quotation mark]

I mentioned to you in some of my Letters that the money I lodged at Charlotte in No Carolina was in Charleston in the possession of a Mr Thomas Commander Russell and that I was at a loss whether to let it remain there or send for it here, as I presumed it would be ordered northerly the bringing it here was in my opinion unnecessary-------

I have the Honor to be &c.
J. Pierce
