Title
Settlement of an Officer's Account
Description
The author notes that his receipts were lost along with his baggage but Lt.(?)Doyle made copies of the payrolls so that is the source of the amounts requested here. He also encloses the payrolls for four months' pay for five men but the allowances for enlisting them are not included in the payrolls so those amounts are not part of this claim.

Sir
I received yours per Cap. Campbell wherein you were so obliging as to set down the Sums of money I had to account for before I received the Stoppages made from me As to the receipts I have long since lost, at the Paoli & sundry other places where my baggage & papers were lost, neither could I have made out my accounts were it f not for Lt. Doyle's papers, who unknown to me, still kept a copy of my payrolls by them I have made out the inclosed accounts agreeable to your directions and proved the same I also enclose you the Copy of the Payrolls for the four months pay with the bounty given to five men, it is true there was some allowance for inlisting them, but I find it not included in the payrolls, therefore have omitted the same acct all I request is that you will befriend me as far as your power, which I am confident you will If any thing is amis or yet wanting, pray write me & give me directions how to proceed your compliance will much oblige.
