Henry Knox, Secretary at War, orders Major Nicholas Fish, Commanding Officer of all troops of New York, to immediately detach one company under Captain Hamtramck to the Ohio River. Knox orders Fish to bring Hamtramck's company to full strength using New York or Connecticut recruits.

An order to detach
Capn Hamtramck's
company to the Ohio
War Office September 19th: 1785
Sir
The Public Service demanding
that all the Troops which are raised should
be immediately marched to the Ohio - I desire
that you would direct the Company under
Captain Hamtramck to be in readiness to march
at a days notice - I request you to press
the recruiting service so as to complete his
Company. If however this should be impossible
and that Officers cannot be appointed at
present to his Company, I may perhaps order
that some of the recruits which may come
from Connecticut to join him pro tempe:
and possibly an Officer or two from that State.
