Title

Making a settlement directly with the United States; making enquiries upon Baron de Kalb

Description

Richmond writes that he received a letter from Major Allen McLane. McLane wishes to have an advance by the state of Maryland transferred to the United States, so he may make one settlement directly to the United States in the sum of $107.10. Richmond also replies to Pierce’s letter of July 14th regarding an advance to Baron de Kalb. Richmond has never received money from this person, nor did he have any knowledge of his having taken up money for the purposes Pierce mentioned. Richmond will make enquiries and will write Pierce with results.
