Capn Irish's representation relative to the stores in Virginia
1785
Sir
Being desirous to decline the Charge of the Military Stores in Virginia, I think it a duty incumbent on me to remind you of the necessity there is of proper Deposits for the Continental Stores in that State. [long dash]
They yet remain too much festtered and not enough Buildings can be procured in one place to collect them together [long dash]
If the Finances is not in a Condition to build proper Arsenals, and Magazines I would with Submission propose that a piece of Woodland may be bought convenient to a Landing on James River and also as convenient to New London as circumstances will admit, and that some Log Storehouses, and Magazines be built there.
Thereon for the reception of the Stores that are at New London, and Such other places that may be most convenient to be collected from And that a Lott be bought [caret for inserted words] or leased near Manchester and a Log, or Brick Storehouse be erected thereon to deposit the Stores in, that are in Manchester. And that there be also a Storehouse erected opposite to Fredericks-burg to contain the Shott & Shells that lie there, and that those that lie at York, may be collected to one of the last mentioned places. [long dash]
The Buildings at New London & Manchester that the Stores are now in, are wanted by the owners of them, and although they are not Sufficient to keep the Stores secure from Loss and damage, the Owners complain much if their Rents are not punctually paid [long dash] what
What I have herein proposed, I hope will not give umbrage, as 'tis not meant to dictate to you what should be done, but just my humble opinion of what I think necessary for the good for the Service that I have had the honor to be in. [long dash]
I am Sir with Respect
Your most Obedient humble Servant
Nat Irish D.e.m.s.

Note Colonel Carrington [undecipherable] point of fork on James River and Camden in Carolina are the places where the Magazines ought to be erected for the Southern States [long dash]
