Dear Sir [salutation underlined]
Since writing to you by post. on the subject of German Frauds, I have seen fresh reason to be of belief, that [undecipherable] actually signed the untrue discharges ___ I think it is extremely difficult to forge his manner of signing ___ and moreover I have evidence to prove that many of the men whose names are on the discharges, actually deserted to the enemy [enemy underlined]. while they had possession of your City ___ I hope to hear from you on this subject as soon as convenient and am with my Compliments to your better half though unknown by me ___ Dear Howell your truly affection at

P.S. White is Just set off for Baltimore with an order for a deal of money due to W. Pierce __ This will be delivered you, by my friend Cap. James Smith late of Maryland Artillery
