Newbern North Carolina April 15,1785.
Dear Sir [line flourish]
The enclosed letter to the Honorable the Secretary at war, with the proceedings of two several Boards of officers. I sent from this place the 11.th of February last W. post but I have had no return, it is a matter of consequence to those two Gentlemen as their commutation entirely depends upon the determination of the Secretary at war [line flourish]
Will you be pleased to seal the enclosed duplicate and send it to the war office, or General Knox, who I hear is at the head of that department, and if possible get me an answer _ previous to which please to take a copy ^of the proceedings for M.r Pierce [line flourish]
