21 Annapolis 28.th Jany. 1785. Dear Sir
I have been informed that an Agent was appoited to settle the Accounts of the late german Regiment Commulation I presume is the only claim they can have upon the United States, however, I find it incumbent to acquaint you that I have closed the accounts in full of a Doctor Alexr. Smith who served in that Corps, and was afterwards drafted into this line- this circumstance is communicated to prevent any mistake that possbly might occur, should an Agent on Behalf of said Reg.tis apply at your Office - I find Capt. Gaither of this time charged with 15,000 for the recuiting service, he says he deliver'd you (white Auditor of the Army Accounts) a list of officers who receipted to him for this Money Execpt for 900 Dollars if this account can be found I wish you would be so good as to transmit it that it maybe given to him and the proper person's debited with the Money. Jos. Howell Jur. Esq. In. White
