Army of the United States

New Haven, April 17th 1784
Dear Sir
I have lately Been Informed by Capt
Lovedale[?] of General Morgans Regiment &
Belonging to this state that in the
Settlement now to be compleated with the
officers and soldiers of General Morgans Reg-
that the months pay which I Received
from you at head of 90th[?] is now Confi-
dered and Deducted in the present Settlement
which I always Expected around be the case
In the Settlement which I compleated
with the Committee Appointed by the State
of Connecticut to Settle with [?]ir Linn
for their pay for 1780 & 1781 they Insisted
on my rendering them An Account of
the money which we had received within
the compass of those years which I Did
of this months pay which they According-
ly Deducted but at the same time I in
the Strongest Terms Urged the Impropriety
of this Line[?] of conduct and Informing
them that this money would be brought
as a charge Against No in a fortune Settlement
which it Seems is now the case I Likewise
Informd them that this money was no part
of the 3 months forwarded by the State for
their Line nor Did you in my opinion
consider it as such
I must consequently again have recourse
to the State of Connecticut for this monthly pay
which will be a Attended with both Trouble &
Expense and perhaps Loose[?] it in the End
I am Sorry Sir that I am Under the necessity
of troubling you to assist me in this
matter but as I am confident that you are
ever ready to render any Service to your
atonasinds[?] I therefore Doubt not that you will
Do it with [?]osins[?]
I therefore request you would take the
Trouble to Grainin[?] the pay roll by which
I Drew the months pay at head of 21st[?] &
you will find that a months pay was Drawn
for the officers and Soldiers which Belong to
Connecticut Agreeable to the List which I
will here Impart I Beg that you would
also transmit to me a List of those names
with a certificate that a months pay was
received from you for them at that time &
place and that you Deduct it from them
in the present Settlement this will be
proof that this months pay remains still
Due to the from the State of Connecticut
As the General Assembly will soon be
convened to whom perhaps I must apply
or the committee at least I may chance to
find together at that time for which
purpose I wish you would Send it by this
first paynt

Sir I also wish you would pleas to send
In cased a Certificate of my having Signed an
order on you for a months pay for the
Society of Cincinnati and that the Same
is Deducted from my Amount in the final
Settlement which will be proof should it
be required by the Society of this State of
my having signed the Institution and
being a member of that [lined washed out]
is a subject of such [line washed out]
and other of the New [line washed out]
