General Lincoln
Philadelphia 26th Feb 1784
Dear General
This day and hour brought me your favour of the 5th instant. I have seen M. Carleton on the matter of the draught recommended to my attention, he informed me he has written you fully on the subject, the result however is that Pettit can not pay the draught in question having at present no affects on hand, but hopes to do it as soon as the communication opesn - The enclosed letter which was to have come by a private hand but unluckily omitted, will give information relative to the mill stones, and miller, both I think you may safely depend on from hence, and I believe you will be better [undecipherable] there from [undecipherable] I wish to be informed without loss of time whether you
by the [undecipherable] for the mill stones and whether you would prefer those made here or those imported ready made both may be had at about the same price for from [undecipherable] to 100 pounds.
I will take my balanced [undecipherable] account anew, you will remember that I laid it long ago before the financier but as yet he has given no direction relative to it,- I think I shall compass the business shortly, when accomplished I will [undecipherable] you - have only to add that I am made happy by your letters and that your requests in every instance shall command my whole attention-
With sentiments of the most perfect esteem
I am as ever your most [undecipherable] servant
Sam Hodgdon
