Sir
[undecipherable] January 6. 1784
Mr. [undecipherable] is desirous to be informed whether there is a [undecipherable] of your continuing for any length of time in your present situation, as private arrangements may depend on the information requested, I will candidly say all I know about the matter that you may take such measures as the interest of you family may dictate _ As yet no establishment either on Troops or Stores is agreed on. _ The Idea of [undecipherable] as far as I can learn is to have five places of deposit for Military stores in the States, but when or where they will be able to procure Suitable buildings I know not _ on how the change will eventually be disposed of a Peace establishment will so [undecipherable] abridge both the number of Officers & the Salaries allowed them, that a [undecipherable] solely from the employment cannot be [undecipherable] from the present you will be continued, at least until I receive further orders for your services have been acceptable for me _ and when the final arrangement is made of I had any hand in the Appointments, and any thing offers worthy your acceptance, you will have the preference _ this is all I can say on the subject perhaps it may be as well to prepare your account and return up to [undecipherable] and pay us a visit when we may converse more intelligently
Captain [undecipherable]
