Pompton 2nd Jany 1782
Dear Pierce
Gibbs has sent to me for the
receipts for Pay [undecipherable] of the [undecipherable]
in my posession, from 77 to [undecipherable]_ I
sent all I have, which will
acct for the monies recd after I
joined the guard / March/78) except
some small sums remaining on
hand belonging to absentees. have
these sums were [undecipherable] of. Gibbs
must can best inform you.
But the business of my letter is
to inform you, as may recollect
yourself, that some of the receipts
for
for payment was [undecipherable] by me. [undecipherable]
as I was not [undecipherable] officer or PMaster
to the Corps, I suppose you would hold Gibbs accountable. For what
I did, was merely as a friend from
& he always recd the money, or the
overdue, after the paymt was
over. Now that I have sent him
these receipts, I have nothing here
if you should call on me to
acct for money recd in that
[undecipherable]. I must therefore
request you to inform me by
the next post, whether you make
Gibbs accountable, if not, it
will be necessary that I should
come
come to settle the matter while [undecipherable]
is within you. otherwise it may
involve me in difficulty very inadvertently.
Gibbs man is in a
great hurry or I would write
you on other subjects - such as -
