Articles of *Agreement,* Made on the *Third* day of *July* Anno Domini, one thousand eight hundred *and one* between *Samuel Dexter,* Secretary for the Department of War of the United States of America, of the one part, and *John Adkins, of Woodford County, in the State of Kentucky,* of the other part. This Agreement Witnesseth, That the [undecipherable] *Henry Dearborn* on behalf of the said United States, and the said *John Adkins* for himself, his heirs, executors and administrators, hereunto respectively covenant and agree, each with the other, to do and perform, mutually covenant to and with each other, as follows, viz. *First.* That the said *Charles Wilkins* his executors, deputies, &c., and all and all the stations herein after specified, shall be hereafter required of him or them for the use of the United States, the *first* day of October, one thousand eight hundred and *one* unto the thirtieth day of September, eighteen hundred *& two* at the respective places and prices following, viz. For every complete ration found at *Knoxville, at Tellico, at South-West-point,* or at any place in the State of *Tennesee,* at the rate of *Eleven* Cents and four mills. For every complete ration found at *Chickasaw Bluffs,* at *Nashville,* at *Bear Creek on the Tennesee,* or at any place on the road between *Nashville* and *Bear Creek, Hamilton County.* For every complete ration found at *Natchez,* and at Fort *Adams,* and its dependencies Thirteen Cents and four mills. For every complete ration found at any post or place on the Mobile River, or between it & *Natchez,* Twenty Cents. For every complete ration found at any place in the *Chickasaw* or *Choctaw* Country, or the road between *Bear Creek & Natchez* Eighteen Cents and four mills. For every complete ration found at any place or places not specified in this contract, the price of the ration is hereafter agreed on between the public and the contractor, but if it be transferred without agreement, it is to be understood as any part of the United States to furnish a complete ration at the places and stations above specified. The contractor is required to deposit provisions in store at or near the place of delivery; provided, that if the contractor shall have been given as put, or while the price of the ration, that all advances, to expend or convey provisions to another or further place if required, shall be that which is stipulated to be paid at the first full mentioned place or post, together with the expenses of transportation to such other place or post. *Second.* That the ration to be furnished and delivered by virtue of this contract, shall consist of the following articles, viz. Eighteen ounces of bread or flour, or when neither can be obtained, at the rate of two, at one and a half pints of corn or [undecipherable] in the room; one pound and a quarter of fresh beef, or one pound of salted beef, or three quarters of a pound of salted pork; and wine [blank] a [blank] of six at the rate of two quarts for every hundred rations; soap at the rate of four
